Indicative private jet hourly rates

The ranges below are planning bands for 2026 retail charter, not guaranteed quotes. They are stated in U.S. dollars per billed flight hour before route-specific taxes and fees. Regional supply, aircraft age, operator standards and trip structure can move a quote outside the band.

Aircraft classIndicative hourly bandTypical mission
Turboprop$2,000–$4,000Short regional trips and smaller-airport access
Very light / light jet$3,000–$6,500Regional business and leisure sectors
Midsize jet$5,000–$8,500Longer domestic routes with a larger cabin
Super-midsize jet$7,000–$11,500Transcontinental and shorter transatlantic missions
Heavy / large-cabin jet$9,000–$16,000Long-haul missions and higher cabin capacity
Ultra-long-range jet$12,000–$20,000+Nonstop intercontinental missions
VIP airliner$18,000–$30,000+Large groups, specialist or head-of-state style cabins
Pricing note: Update the bands quarterly from multiple observable charter sources. Never present an hourly rate as an all-in trip price.

What changes the final charter price

  • Positioning: the aircraft may need to fly empty to the departure airport or after the trip.
  • Billable time: taxi time, minimum daily utilization and round-trip structure can affect billed hours.
  • Airport costs: landing, parking, handling, security, customs and slot fees vary widely.
  • Crew and trip support: overnights, visas, permits, catering and ground transport can be additional.
  • Weather and operations: de-icing, diversions, fuel stops and crew-duty limits may change the plan.
  • Taxes: U.S. federal excise tax, segment fees, VAT or other local charges may apply depending on the trip.
  • Peak demand: major events, holidays and seasonal corridors can tighten availability and increase repositioning.

A simple way to estimate a trip

Begin with the realistic flight time in each direction, multiply by an appropriate aircraft-class rate, then add positioning and known fees. For example, a two-hour one-way sector does not automatically equal two billed hours: the aircraft may reposition, the operator may apply a daily minimum, and the return opportunity may affect pricing. A defensible estimate shows assumptions rather than producing a false-precision number.

How to compare quotes fairly

Normalize every proposal to the same itinerary, departure window, aircraft requirement and fee treatment. Confirm whether tax, de-icing, catering, ground transport, Wi-Fi and international handling are included. A lower quote can be reasonable, but it can also reflect a different aircraft, a non-guaranteed category, a restrictive cancellation policy or an operator that has not yet been identified.
