The R&A

The published 2027 venue is St Andrews, with an event-week window of 11–18 July. Future links venues require different airports and transfer plans.

Check the organizer’s current program before committing to tickets or travel. Airport comparisons here describe the listed host or representative itinerary; rotating events require the actual edition’s venue.

Nearest airport options

Airport options to compare with your operating team
AirportIATA / ICAOPlanning role
DundeeDND / EGPNNearby regional option; assess aircraft suitability
EdinburghEDI / EGPHInternational gateway with private handling
RAF Leuchars— / EGQLMilitary airfield; only with explicit current authorization

A dash indicates no confirmed IATA code. FAA local identifiers are labeled separately.

Proximity does not establish aircraft suitability or permission to arrive. Your operator should assess the aircraft, payload, current procedures, border clearance and available handling at the selected gateway.

Ground & helicopter transfers

The final journey

The Old Course is in St Andrews. Compare a confirmed Dundee or Edinburgh plan with hotel and championship transport, rather than assuming military-airfield access.

Can you arrive by helicopter?

Use a helicopter only with current authorized landing arrangements and a weather fallback. A links-course ticket does not establish a landing right.

Airport slots, parking & operating constraints

Confirm aircraft acceptance, airport coordination, parking and permitted hours. Leuchars access is conditional and cannot be sold as a generally available private-jet arrival.

Track the accepted airport schedule, handling, aircraft parking and any permits separately. Ask whether the aircraft will stay or reposition, and check the current AIP, supplements and NOTAMs with the operating team. A venue ticket or FBO booking is not an air-traffic clearance.

Admission & event fees

Official ticket ballots, hospitality and travel packages offer different access; verify the actual product.

Use the official organizer’s current sales information for published ticket prices and access conditions. Where no current public tariff is verified, request a direct quote rather than relying on a guessed fee. Hospitality, invitations and ticket availability can change between editions.

Request an itemized aviation quote covering handling, parking, permits, fuel, repositioning and any event charges. Budget separately for hotels, drivers, helicopter connections and admission unless the contract explicitly includes them.

How to plan your trip

  1. Secure the right access. Confirm the actual year, venue, session and admission or invitation before fixing travel.
  2. Choose a workable arrival. Compare a primary airport and an approved alternative with the operating team, including weather, aircraft suitability and the final transfer.
  3. Reserve the aircraft stay. Obtain handling, parking and accepted arrival/departure arrangements. Record any repositioning and its cost.
  4. Connect the last mile. Book the correct vehicle, venue entrance and any authorized helicopter leg, with luggage and a ground fallback.
  5. Reconcile the itinerary. Check passenger documents, local dates, baggage, crew duty, return pickup and the contact authorized to approve changes.
