Where, when & organizer

The collectible-design fair is a separate booking from Art Basel even when the city art-week dates overlap.

Hosted in
Miami / South Florida, United States
Usual timing
Usually December; other city editions differ
Organized by
Design Miami

Avoid treating all Design Miami editions as one Miami event; Paris and Seoul programs have their own venues and calendars.

Check the organizer’s current program before committing to tickets or travel. Airport comparisons here describe the listed host or representative itinerary; rotating events require the actual edition’s venue.

Nearest airport options

Airport options to compare with your operating team
AirportIATA / ICAOPlanning role
Miami–Opa-locka ExecutiveOPF / KOPFBusiness aviation gateway for Miami and the northern suburbs
Miami InternationalMIA / KMIAInternational alternative with private handling
Fort Lauderdale ExecutiveFXE / KFXEBusiness aviation option for the Fort Lauderdale area

Proximity does not establish aircraft suitability or permission to arrive. Your operator should assess the aircraft, payload, current procedures, border clearance and available handling at the selected gateway.

Ground & helicopter transfers

The final journey

Miami Beach, Hard Rock Stadium and Fort Lauderdale are separate destinations. Match the FBO to the event location, then allow for causeway traffic and venue access queues.

Can you arrive by helicopter?

Private helicopter services require an approved landing point and a licensed operator. Verify baggage and final ground access; a waterfront venue is not automatically a heliport.

Airport slots, parking & operating constraints

Check customs acceptance for an international arrival, current FAA notices and the FBO’s parking and reservation policy. Peak art, boat and sporting weeks can overlap with winter-season demand.

Track the accepted airport schedule, handling, aircraft parking and any permits separately. Ask whether the aircraft will stay or reposition, and check the current AIP, supplements and NOTAMs with the operating team. A venue ticket or FBO booking is not an air-traffic clearance.

Admission & event fees

Preview and public access are separate; verify the specific city edition and product.

Use the official organizer’s current sales information for published ticket prices and access conditions. Where no current public tariff is verified, request a direct quote rather than relying on a guessed fee. Hospitality, invitations and ticket availability can change between editions.

Request an itemized aviation quote covering handling, parking, permits, fuel, repositioning and any event charges. Budget separately for hotels, drivers, helicopter connections and admission unless the contract explicitly includes them.

How to plan your trip

  1. Secure the right access. Confirm the actual year, venue, session and admission or invitation before fixing travel.
  2. Choose a workable arrival. Compare a primary airport and an approved alternative with the operating team, including weather, aircraft suitability and the final transfer.
  3. Reserve the aircraft stay. Obtain handling, parking and accepted arrival/departure arrangements. Record any repositioning and its cost.
  4. Connect the last mile. Book the correct vehicle, venue entrance and any authorized helicopter leg, with luggage and a ground fallback.
  5. Reconcile the itinerary. Check passenger documents, local dates, baggage, crew duty, return pickup and the contact authorized to approve changes.
