Your journey

Private jet to Zurich

Zurich can move easily from a morning meeting to a gallery, a lake walk and a serious dinner, provided the hotel matches the intended pace. A central property near Paradeplatz or the lake supports short city journeys; the Dolder’s hillside setting offers a more retreat-like experience with a separate trip into town. Zurich Airport is the main gateway and publishes clear business aviation arrangements through its General Aviation Center. For a short stay, keep the Old Town and lakefront together, give art its own morning, and add a regional excursion only when there is a genuinely free day beyond the business diary.

Where to land for Zurich

Zurich Airport is the city's principal international gateway. Choose the onward ground arrangement around a central Zurich stay, a lakeside property or a longer Swiss itinerary rather than treating them as equivalent transfers.

Airport options and trade-offs
Airport	Location and access	Private aviation planning
Zurich AirportZRH / LSZH	North of central Zurich.	The main international and business aviation gateway. Private passengers use the General Aviation Center arrangements coordinated by their handling provider; allow for the required security and escorted apron movement rather than assuming unrestricted aircraft access.

Private terminals and arrival experience

A fixed-base operator (FBO) provides ground services for private aircraft and their passengers. The handling team coordinates your arrival; airport opening hours alone do not establish terminal or border-service availability.

Zurich Airport

General Aviation Center

The airport requires passengers to be escorted between the centre and the aircraft, with security screening before departure. The chosen FBO, or fixed-base operator, coordinates handling. Tell the driver the actual general aviation entrance, not an airline-terminal drop-off.

Airport transfers and getting around

Paradeplatz, lakefront and the Dolder

Central hotel or hillside retreat

Choose the arrival vehicle around the hotel setting. Central hotels support walking between business and shopping, while a hillside stay benefits from a planned return after dinner. Do not treat the two experiences as interchangeable simply because both are in Zurich.

Old Town, Seefeld and the waterfront

Lake and neighbourhood travel

Use public transport or a car for longer links and explore compact areas on foot. Keep a lake excursion on a flexible day so weather and boat schedules can determine its length.

Ask the operating carrier to confirm aircraft suitability, handling and permissions for the actual itinerary. For budgeting, see our private jet charter cost guide.

Where to stay in Zurich

Near Paradeplatz and Lake Zurich

Baur au Lac

A historic hotel with a private park setting at the edge of the central shopping and business area. It suits a city stay that still values outdoor space, particularly when meetings and evening meals are concentrated in the centre.

Hillside above Zurich

The Dolder Grand

A destination hotel with art, wellness and a quieter elevated setting. Choose it when time at the property is part of the purpose of the visit; city appointments require transport planning rather than a simple walk from the lobby.

Paradeplatz

Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich

A central choice for finance, shopping and a compact urban programme. It suits travellers who prefer to step directly into the city’s working and retail core, with lakefront time close enough to form a natural break between appointments.

Where to eat

Baur au Lac

Marguita

Mediterranean-inspired cooking and the hotel’s garden setting provide a relaxed alternative to a long tasting menu. It is the relevant current restaurant name for this part of the property, with terrace seating dependent on conditions and availability.

The Dolder Grand

The Restaurant

Heiko Nieder’s fine-dining restaurant is an evening destination in its own right. Reserve early, discuss dietary needs and keep the return car flexible enough for the full meal; the hillside setting deserves an unhurried arrival.

The Dolder Grand

Saltz

A more flexible dining option with regional ingredients and a design-led room. It works well for lunch during a hotel or wellness day, offering a different commitment from The Restaurant’s fine-dining format.

What to do in Zurich

Central Zurich

Kunsthaus Zürich

Allow a half day for selected collections and exhibitions. Choose an area of interest before arriving rather than trying to cover the entire museum, then combine the visit with a nearby lunch and an Old Town walk.

Central river districts

Old Town and the Limmat

Spend two to three hours exploring streets and river views, with time for a café stop. This is a useful first-day orientation and pairs naturally with central shopping without needing a full-day car itinerary.

City waterfront and lake services

Lake Zurich outing

Use a lake walk or a scheduled boat trip as a relaxed afternoon. Choose the route and return service first, especially when dinner is reserved in the city; a full-lake excursion is a different commitment from a short cruise.

History of Zurich

Zurich's history includes prehistoric lakeside settlements and the Roman station of Turicum. Medieval trade and the Reformation shaped its institutions before modern finance and industry expanded the city. The lake and Limmat still connect its older and newer districts.

Roman Turicum preceded the medieval trading city beside the lake and Limmat. Guilds and commerce became influential, while the Protestant Reformation under Huldrych Zwingli reshaped religious and civic institutions.

Industrialisation, rail connections and financial services later expanded the economy. The old town's churches and merchant streets now sit beside districts whose factories and railway infrastructure reveal a different side of Zurich's development.

Interesting facts

Zurich joined the Swiss Confederation in 1351.
The Limmat flows out of Lake Zurich through the central city.

Best time to visit Zurich

May–September is appealing for lake and walking activities. Winter suits museums and some onward ski itineraries, with shorter daylight and colder conditions.

Choosing your travel season
When	Conditions and activities	Planning considerations
May–September	Lake leisure and outdoor dining are especially attractive.	Reserve popular summer dates and keep a rain alternative for the boat day.
March–April and October–November	Changeable shoulder weather favours a mix of galleries and walks.	Use flexible neighbourhood touring around firm museum and dining reservations.
December–February	Cold weather creates an indoor cultural and dining focus.	Pack for winter and allow extra travel time if combining Zurich with a mountain resort.

Major events and advance planning

City venues

Zurich cultural calendar

Use the official city listings to select exhibitions, performances and festivals for the actual dates. A major event can make a central hotel more convenient, while increasing demand for a limited weekend stay.

Zurich

Swiss currency and meeting times

Prices are generally in Swiss francs, and punctuality matters for business and booked experiences. Confirm local time when coordinating with an international flight team and leave a real gap between airport arrival and the first meeting.

Switzerland

Entry requirements

Consult official Swiss entry guidance for the traveller’s nationality and itinerary, especially if the visit continues into another country. Private handling and border eligibility remain separate arrangements.

Suggested itinerary

An editorial starting point. Suggested visit lengths and transfer allowances are planning estimates, not service guarantees.

Central Zurich or the Dolder

Arrival

Transfer to the chosen hotel and keep the first meal nearby. Central guests can take a short river walk; hillside guests may prefer to enjoy the property after travelling.

Art and Old Town

First full day

Visit the Kunsthaus in the morning, have lunch centrally and walk the Limmat districts. Reserve Marguita for a relaxed evening or a separate full fine-dining occasion at the Dolder.

Lake and local life

Second full day

Choose a boat route that fits the available time, then leave an afternoon for shopping, wellness or meetings. A short cruise makes more sense than a long excursion when departure is approaching.
