Your journey
Private jet to Los Angeles
Los Angeles is a collection of neighbourhoods separated by real travel time. A Beverly Hills shopping stay, a studio meeting in the Valley and a beach holiday in Santa Monica require different daily plans. Van Nuys is central to the private aviation picture, while LAX can be useful for a west-side itinerary or an airline connection. Choose the hotel around the most important appointment rather than a general idea of the city. Give each day one geographic centre, then combine a museum, meal and neighbourhood walk nearby. This leaves time to enjoy the architecture, gardens and coast without spending every afternoon crossing the basin.

Where to land for Los Angeles
Van Nuys is in the San Fernando Valley, while Los Angeles International is near the coast. The city is too dispersed for one airport to be best for every itinerary: match the arrival to the neighbourhood and planned onward journey.
Airport options and trade-offs| Airport | Location and access | Private aviation planning |
|---|
| Van Nuys AirportVNY / KVNY | San Fernando Valley, north of the Santa Monica Mountains. | A major general aviation airport with several handling providers. It is a natural comparison for Valley appointments and many private flights, but the drive to Beverly Hills or the coast crosses busy routes. |
|---|
| Los Angeles International AirportLAX / KLAX | Westchester, near the west-side coast. | Compare for airline connections and coastal stays. Private aircraft use their arranged handling facilities, with pickup instructions separate from the airline terminals. Assess congestion and handling together rather than choosing by airport familiarity. |

Private terminals and arrival experience
A fixed-base operator (FBO) provides ground services for private aircraft and their passengers. The handling team coordinates your arrival; airport opening hours alone do not establish terminal or border-service availability.

Van Nuys handling choices
An FBO, or fixed-base operator, supplies the private terminal and aircraft handling. Van Nuys has multiple providers; ask the operator to identify the selected facility, passenger entrance and car collection point. Luggage and any large equipment should be included in the handling request.

Plan by neighbourhood
Retain a driver for appointments spanning districts. Travel times change sharply with the route and time of day, so obtain a day-specific estimate and avoid pairing a Valley morning with several unrelated west-side stops.

Beach stays and evening reservations
A coastal hotel can be a good holiday base while adding journeys to inland restaurants. Put a Beverly Hills dinner on the same day as shopping or an inland museum, then reserve a separate coastal evening.
Ask the operating carrier to confirm aircraft suitability, handling and permissions for the actual itinerary. For budgeting, see our private jet charter cost guide.
History of Los Angeles
Los Angeles developed from a Spanish colonial pueblo established in 1781 on Tongva homelands. Railways, migration and industry drove later expansion. Film production, aerospace and Pacific trade helped create a metropolitan area with many distinct centres.
Tongva communities occupied the basin before Spanish colonisation established the pueblo in 1781. Mexican rule preceded incorporation into the United States, followed by railways, land development and expanding agriculture.
Oil, film production and manufacturing accelerated twentieth-century growth. Water infrastructure and freeways enabled a vast metropolitan landscape, while successive migrations shaped neighbourhoods whose histories extend well beyond Hollywood.
Interesting facts
- El Pueblo preserves landmarks associated with the early town.
- Hollywood is one district within Los Angeles, not a separate city today.
